Peter Tarter is far more than an award-winning video and film editor – he is a natural storyteller.
He cuts with an ear for music and an eye for style but more importantly, he’s a fantastic listener who collaborates with joy, vision, and artistry.
About Peter
Born in Mount Vernon, NY – then raised in Bologna, Italy and Uganda, Africa – Peter came back to the U.S. to pursue a Liberal Arts Degree in Psychology from Manhattan College in New York City. After counseling for several years, he decided to reevaluate his career path, becoming a waiter for some time at Café Odeon in Tribeca. Here, he first met Andy Warhol and Beverly Johnson, who encouraged him to try getting in front of the camera. It wasn’t until years later, however, after being discovered on Sunset Blvd by Bruce Weber, that he was tapped by Calvin Klein and began starring in music videos, commercials, and 2 movies. After a brief stint in the limelight, he decided to step behind the camera, and ultimately found his true passion as an editor.
Coincidentally, this happened at the same time as becoming a full-time dad, which he cites as the best thing he ever did to this day. Working his way up within the best commercial edit houses in Los Angeles, he eventually went from pouring coffee for clients to founding his very own company.
Today, Peter enjoys competitive swimming, chess and painting. Some of his favorite recent projects include Yards for Votes directed by Kiran Koshy and Ruffles Potato Chips directed by Paul Hunter. He is flexible in working style, whether it’s in-house or virtually, and is always open to an introduction or discovery call to learn more about your project. Thanks for visiting – he looks forward to hearing from you!
